Welcome!

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church has been located in the beautiful Central California County of Santa Cruz, and the community of Soquel since 1964. Being located near the redwoods and the panoramic Pacific Ocean is a blessing that has heightened our appreciation for the beauty of God's creation.

Our commitment to serve God and neighbor has continued since our eager beginnings over 40 years ago. Our members participate in activities as diverse as singing in the choir, attending Bible studies, serving during the liturgy, throwing birthday celebrations for our most senior parishioners, and leading a weekly Sunday morning adult class with intelligent and energetic discussion, to name a few. Our ministry to the homeless has allowed us to provide shelter, food, clothing and spiritual nurturing to many over the years. Indeed, those who came to live on our property a number of years ago have become participants with us in our ministry.

In worship we use traditional, liturgical worship forms, with variations, in honor of their deep resonance down through the ages and now in our lives. We are an ever-evolving group of people who are grounded in Scripture and the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist but open to struggling with their meaning for our lives, for the life of the church, and for our society. We believe and seek to practice Jesus' admonition to love God and to love our neighbor; encouraging, challenging and supporting each other to grow toward a deeper understanding of service and response to God's loving desire for all creation.

We are energized and humbled to welcome everyone, whether they are just curious about Christianity or looking for an alternative to a life of consumption and triumph, that is, a life of following Jesus in giving and serving.
